Symposium – “The Manifestation of Religion or Belief in the Public Sphere”

Symposium on “The Manifestation of Religion or Belief in the Public Sphere” was organised by Research Turkey in partnership with Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford.

Centre for Policy and Research on Turkey (Research Turkey)’s  organised a Symposium entitled “The Manifestation of Religion or Belief in the Public Sphere” in association with Faculty of Law at University of Oxford on 14 June 2014.

The event consisted of two panels in which four panellists took part. The first panel focused on the diverging jurisprudence of the Human Rights Committee  and the European Court of Human Rights  with the presentations of Michael Wiener, Visiting Fellow, Kellogg College, Oxford an JJuris Rudevskis, European Court of Human Rights. The second panel  took a comparative approach with the presentations of Mine Yıldırım, Norwegian Helsinki Committee, who depicted the legislation and practice in Turkey, and Erica Howard, Middlesex University, who provided an overview of the situation in the UK.
