Following an application from an Armenian priest, the Turkish Ombudsman, started a process of inquiry for the payment of salaries of clergy of various religions from the state budget. Thus, Mehmet Elkatmış, from the Ombudsman’s Office visited the leaders of the Jewish, Armenian and Syraic religious leaders in Istanbul. He also asked for the opinion of various Ministries and institutions. If the responses are positive, clergy, including priests, will be able to receive their salaries from the state budget.
