Lawsuit Brought Against Actress Laçin Over Anti Capital Punishment ‘Tweet’

Laçin faces up to 1 year in prison in the lawsuit brought on charge of “Openly insulting religious values that are embraced by a section of the people”.

İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had prosecuted actress Berna Laçin due to a tweet she posted against the campaign calling for “capital punishment”, which was launched after 8-year-old Eylül Yağlıkara being murdered after abused in Ankara.

Laçin faces up to 1 year in prison in the lawsuit brought on charge of “Openly insulting religious values that are embraced by a section of the people”.

“Troll accounts targeted me”

Concerning the prosecution, Berna Laçin had told Haluk Kalafat from bianet:

“I posted that tweet towards afternoon. The real attack began in the evening hours. Some troll accounts targeted me”. (PT/TK)
