Hate crimes targeting people based on their national or ethnic identity, language, religion or belief, gender identity or sexual orientation, disability or similar characteristics continue to be a significant issue in the world and in Turkey.
In this webinar, you will learn about ways of addressing hate crimes from around the world and from Turkey, as well as the paths opened by civil society. We will discuss the strategies used by various non-governmental organizations working on hate crimes. We are also hoping to explore ways of creating a common space to combat these crimes.
In the webinar, moderated by Betsy Penso from Avlaremoz, Murat Köylü will present the activities of KAOS GL focusing on homophobic and transphobic hate crimes. Bill Howe will talk about the work of the UK-based Stop Hate UK against discrimination and hate crimes. Dr. Anna Tatar will share the experiences of Never Again, which works on racism and discrimination in Poland. Finally, Funda Tekin from Freedom of Belief Initiative will address the Initiative’s work on hate crimes motivated by bias based on religion, belief or non-belief.
